Man sentenced to 6 years for fatal drunk driving crash

When someone causes a fatal crash or one that involves serious injuries, it's important that they are held responsible for their actions. They should be asked to cover your financial losses and to pay for the pain and suffering that they've caused.

Sometimes, crashes lead to criminal charges, like in this case involving a 51-year-old man accused of killing a woman who was riding her motorcycle in Madison County. The 35-year-old woman was killed when the other driver ran a stop sign and collided with her.

At the time of the crash, authorities stated that the man's blood alcohol content (BAC) was close to twice the legal limit. He was taken to court, and he took a plea deal that sentenced him to six years in prison. The woman's family said they are not satisfied with the six-year sentence, but regardless of that sentence, their loved one won't be able to come back to them.

Stories like this one are tragic because people are hurt and may struggle with the loss of loved ones. A severe injury or a death doesn't just impact those involved in the collision. It has a wide-reaching effect on families and friends of the deceased.

Not every wrongful death or personal injury case will come with criminal charges, but that doesn't mean that victims don't have a right to seek compensation. Through a civil lawsuit or a claim against the other party's insurance, it may be possible to get the compensation that is needed to cover the cost of medical care or to take care of a family that has been left behind.
