A serious accident in Illinois ripped a car into pieces when it slammed into a stump. Not only were car parts strewn across the road, but the passenger was torn out of the vehicle. Tragically, he passed away in the crash. The driver did survive, but he suffered from significant injuries.
Reports indicate that the wreck occurred on July 29, which was a Sunday, at about 1:34 a.m. The two men were apparently in a 2015 Mercedes-Benz Model S. The speed limit set on the road was just 55 miles per hour, and the driver in the luxury car was allegedly speeding. While doing so, the car drove over the center line, went into the ditch, traveled down a steep embankment and then slammed into the massive tree stump.
That stump smashed into the car’s engine compartment and ripped through it, tearing through the car’s entire body, all the way back to the rear wheel. The transmission, the engine and other parts of the vehicle’s interior were sheared off from the remainder of the vehicle — including the passenger and the seat he was sitting in.
Though the investigation is ongoing and blood tests are still being conducted, the authorities do suspect that alcohol use played a role in the high-speed accident.
Both men in the crash were 54 years old.
