A man in Illinois was hit by a car nearly a month ago, and he’s still in the critical care unit recovering from his injuries. The man is 49 year old. He was on his way to work, trying to cross a street, when a car ran him down on February 26, 2018.
He wound up sustaining numerous bone fractures, including some to his ankles, legs, pelvis and back. Emergency crews rushed him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, which is located in Downers Grove. Though he did survive the incident, he has been confined to the hospital ever since.
His daughter-in-law recently gave an update on his health, and it seems that he has a lot of internal issues to go along with the multiple fractures. She said that he needs dialysis because one of his kidneys is struggling to function properly.
Additionally, he has also been accumulating potentially dangerous fluid in his lungs. She also noted that he’d required numerous staples in his head, running from the crown of his head to his forehead.
Moreover, doctors seem to feel that even his month in the hospital is just the start of a very long journey. His daughter-in-law said that he may not feel like himself again for two years or longer. She and her family members know what those medical bills are going to look like, so they’re trying to do fundraisers to raise the money.
This case really shows just how expensive an accident can be and how long the recovery process may take. Those who are seriously injured need to know what rights they have to financial compensation.
